This retreat focuses on teaching people how to create a pattern from absolute scratch.
It is also bringing together women in a creative and relaxing environment to live surface pattern design.
You will learn how to be inspired anywhere.
You will learn to create the right workflow for you.
You will learn how to take the right photos using your iPad and iPhone that you can use without a scanner to create patterns.
You will learn to understand the needed workflow in Photoshop and how to work successfully in layers and understand what you are doing.
You will learn your way around Illustrator and learn how to use it effectively to create patterns.
You will learn the basic ground rules of compositions and why some patterns work and some don't.
You will learn how to quickly construct your own color palettes.
You will be able to become part of a helpful and structured group of like minded women.
You will be looked after from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.
A bit about the retreat
You will be staying in a treehouse located with an amazing view of both rainforest and ocean situated 90 Meters above sea level. It is one of the few structures allowed to be built at this height. From here you get an uninterrupted birds eye view of the ocean and rainforest. It really is a perfect blend of privacy and convenience.
You will learn how to create patterns from beginning to end.
It all starts by being inspired and inspiration is just one thing you will be totally immersed in.
We will take those inspiration shots that you will take on your camera, or iphone or ipad, and turn them into drawings which you can then take further into the next stage of pattern design. You will also be given basic drawing skills and even some color theory to help you with designing your pattern collection. We will even have a go at some acrylic painting to further enhance your design skills.
We will be working on several collections inspired by our trips out and about.
You will be taught how to work in Photoshop in a simple and efficient manner to create patterns. Included will be enough information that is streamlined so that you can understand what you are doing in PS. Things that will be included is how to work successful and easily in layers to construct your pattern.
We will also demystify Illustrator. We will cover how to draw in AI, as well as how to organize your workflow in an efficient manner between the two programs.
Also covered will be how to organize your digital work to keep it safe, easy to find and organized.
Our design inspiration trips will be into Cairns for the Art Gallery and Aquarium, Kuranda for some stunning colorful butterflies and birds, and of course to the Botanic Gardens in Edge Hill.
We will also be visiting various Markets for some great visual inspiration and shopping of course and even travel up to Port Douglas.
You will have lots and lots of material to keep you occupied for months ahead and enable you to really flesh out your collections.
Of course we will also do a few touristy things whilst you are here! We will saunter along the beautiful esplanade of Cairns as well as visit the internationally known nightmarkets.
We will be stopping at some of the wonderful waterfalls and also take a trip up to the beautiful Port Douglas to enjoy sauntering through the Port Douglas Market and then have some lunch.
